So you didn’t get a free copy of the game last time. If you had been luckier, it could have been yours, so you have nobody to blame but yourself.

Designer Roberta Taylor is giving away another copy of the game. This time, she’s giving a shot to you luck-impaired folks by giving you an opportunity to win through creativity.

See, every deck comes with 4 blank cards – 2 full, like the outlaws, and 2 half and half, like the leaders. And so:

To enter this giveaway, just use the comments to tell me one character you would create, and what your character's special ability is if they have one. There will be 2 winners- one randomly drawn and one Designer's choice, chosen by yours truly. So you can trust to luck, or you can imagine something fun and amazing and WOW! me to increase your chances. The contest is open to anyone living anywhere on earth, and will remain open until July 27th at 3pm Mountain Standard time.

PROTIP: Enter your entry at the Whimsy Games Site, not this one.

  1. Robert says:

The Psychic – gives the holder of the card the ability to know what the rules and components of the game being given away are, so that the holder can make a meaningfully creative new card for the game.

The Smartass – has the ability to mock his betters without fear of substantive retribution.

  2. porschecm2 says:

Hm, very cool. Is there a way we can know more about the game, and what sorts of ideas would be appropriate to the play style (or are already in use in the actual game)?

  3. Hitch says:

It seems this contest is aimed at people who already own and love the game and want an extra copy to give to a friend.

    • Rustybadger says:

You do get a random entry in the draw for your comment regardless, and it’s possible that someone with experience playing the game would come up with a more innovative card type, but we’ve had a lot of unique and amazing suggestions so far, and almost everyone who’s participated has never played it either. Would love to see your ideas!

  4. Eärlindor says:

Kinda hate to post here, but wanted to you let you know I sent the info you requested for tonight.

  5. AGrey says:

A leader card – Preacher Kayle (1 str)

When Preacher Kayle is played, one bandit that your opponent has played is recruited to your side of the fight (chosen randomly from your opponent’s played bandits)

Of course, I have no idea what any of the cards are like, so if this is too powerful or already in use… OK, then.

[edit] of course. I post this, only to go to the site linked and find out that literally the first suggestion is exactly this, only posted yesterday… Oh, well.

  6. Lord Nyax says:

I approve of this contest. I love making up cards and character stuff, and I love the chance of winning something. I get to do something I love, I get a chance of winning a game, and the people at Whimsy get lots of creative ideas for free. This is a win-win.

Also, as anyone who has ever been part of a fan community for a game and has come up with the coolest custom ever only to find it buried under a pile of other customs in a thread no one will ever read knows, just knowing that the developers have read your idea is a reward in and of itself.

  7. Guy says:

Aw man! I have to live on Earth to participate in this contest? What a rip!

  8. Ravens Cry says:

I got a “Server Not Found” on the link, Mr. Young.

  9. Syal says:

French Army- if played, nobody can capture the traveler, as your forces band together to defeat the French insurgency.

    • Mari says:

Period appropriate but I’ll have to dock points for not playing to the modern cultural stereotype of the French as “cheese eating surrender monkeys.”

      • Sumanai says:

How about this: Once they band together to fight the French, the French will automatically surrender (regardless of the outlaws’ strength), and the side that would win the melee wins the French Army card as if it were a traveler card. Value: -1 (they’re picky about their cheese)

  10. Mark says:

It’s such a simple game, it’s ripe for new card ideas. I love contests like this.

  11. siliconscout says:

So Shamus any chance that you and yours have ripped into a box?

If so what did you think? From the video looks like a fun little game but I generally try to get some reviews and what not before I buy an online game.

Sometimes I think that there is nothing more likely to be riven from the bloody tears of hate and despair from the devil himself than they soul of an Online Marketer.
