Wow. I’ve seen Lego replicas of 3d things (Orthanc, for instance); I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of a drawing, sketch, or painting before.

Very impressive what he did, and I think it adds to Escher’s credibility (not that he needed it) that his . . .um. . .unusual. . .drawings can be made 3d. Now let’s see the infinite staircase in legos!

  2. Shamus says:

“Now let's see the infinite staircase in legos!”

    Okay.

  3. Aiken Drum says:

I was randomly grazing the net a few weks back and saw Escher’s staircase in lego. Also a fullsized replica of Han Solo encased in carbonite. which bumped my geek rating for the day into the high NINE THOUSANDS!

I’ve been pining for some legos for the last 2 years… I think I may actually go buy some again after seeing this. Shame, really, I liked having some leftover money in my account at the end of the month. Oh well.

  5. Zaghadka says:

Thanks for sharing. This put a big smile on my face. What am I talking about? I am grinning like the Cheshire Cat as I type this.

(I love the way the first poster demanded the Infinite Staircase and you just linked him 7 minutes later! Bet he’ll be surprised if he comes back.)

    +10 to awesome!

  6. Phlux says:

I wonder if it’s built something like this:

  7. The Gneech says:

    Made of awesome and win.

    And also, surrealism.

  8. Carl the Bold says:

He is surprised. (And of course he came back.)

So, infinite staircase in legos. Okay, if you’re taking requests, how about the impossible triangle thing: http://www.jaffs.com/blog/triangle.jpg

(“If you’ve built three impossible things out of legos this morning, why not top it off with breakfast at Milliway’s, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe!”

  9. Shamus says:

    Here is that shape.

Made out of paper, not lego, alas.

  10. Phlux says:

A couple of those paper ones, triangle include, look photoshopped.

  11. Shadow Wolf says:

Here’s the page by the original author, with a *much* better picture, and some details about construction. Ascending is by the same guy, and again there are lbetter pictures. There are also several other Eschers on his Lego page.

  12. Deoxy says:

Shamus, you asked for ads that need to be blocked? Given you criteria, there’s one showing on the right right now: http://www.MethodHome.com

“join the zero mile high club.

detox your home with omop and wood for good floor cleaner.”

And the picture is shows a pair of intertwined male and female legs sticking out from another room, making clear that “zero mile high club” is indeed a take-off from “mile high club”. :-/

Wow, a new low in advertisement… for a MOP. that’s just sad.

  13. Roxysteve says:

Shamus, a word to the wise: there’s a HUGE advertisement for Lego Echer sculptures right at the top of this page.

    Disgusting.

    Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells.

  14. Shamus says:

Deoxy: Thanks for the heads up. Yes, that is lame and it needs to go. (And it will.)

  15. Huckleberry says:

    Another ad that’s — well — “strange”:

    Gutzzz.blogspot.com

  16. Shamus says:

    Huckleberry: Thanks. Nixed.

  17. Zaghadka says:

Oh my God. It’s like I’m witnessing a brutal Jacobin massacre of tasteless and lame ads.

    OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!

  18. Taelus says:

Ok, that’s officially wonderful. I’m going to have to yank it over to my site for people to see. It’s not like anyone actually visits my site, but still, I’ll feel good about it pretending for a few moments.
    ;-)

  19. I am jealous. I wish I could make Lego as good as this. Truely amazing Lego build!
