I actually liked Flutebox better than Beardyman, who seemed to the the headliner, but they’re both talented and inventive.
Good to be the King?
Which would you rather be: A king in the middle ages, or a lower-income laborer in the 21st century?
The Best of 2018
I called 2018 "The Year of Good News". Here is a list of the games I thought were interesting or worth talking about that year.
Push the Button!
Scenes from Half-Life 2:Episode 2, showing Gordon Freeman being a jerk.
Marvel's Civil War
Team Cap or Team Iron Man? More importantly, what basis would you use for making that decision?
The Gradient of Plot Holes
Most stories have plot holes. The failure isn't that they exist, it's when you notice them while immersed in the story.
I’m not sure; it’s kind of difficult to compare. While what Flutebox does may require more technical expertise, Beardyman is just plain funnier. Although as someone who considers himself rather “beardy”, I find that Beardyman’s claim to his name is rather tenuous.
On Flutebox: It’s like at some point in his life, this man said “I want to be cool, but I want to excel at the flute! How can I possibly combine these two disparate goals in life?!”
On Beardyman: ‘Beardy?’ Really? I’m beardier than that when I forget to shave for three days. But I must defer to his awexome skillz.
if you like this, check out kid beyond. amazing stuff, one of the best shows ive ever been to.
Only had time to watch the first couple minutes so far (I’ll watch the rest later), but “Flutebox” sounds like what the lead guy of Jethro Tull would be if he were coming up in today’s music industry.
This is not a bad thing.
I think you might like The Umbilical Brothers, Shamus. Do look for them on YouTube.
That said, Flutebox was amazing. Beardyman was good too, but I preferred the flute. Much more inventive.
I second radio_babylon: Kid Beyond is another great performer.
I happen to love some of Beardyman’s youtube stuff, and this is probably one of the best examples.
YOU WIN THIS ROUND, ENGLAND.
The flute has a simple waveform, not much more than a sine wave so it sounds a lot like synth/techno.
If you watch it all the way through, you’ll see at 12:40 that Flutebox and Beardyman team up for a duet. Funny and impressive at the same time. -A
It was hypnotizing. It was only after I’d watched the whole thing that I realized “Damn. I just sat through a nearly 20 minute Youtube video.”
Pretty awesome.
Flutebox is doing something I’ve never heard before, and that is incredibly cool at the same time.
I just wanted to slap the smug off of Beardyman.
After 11 comments and who knows how many viewers, I’m surprised to be the first to notice… “who seemed to the the headliner”.
In other news, I found them both very impressive. Now to go share this with 500 people…
I can take about 30 seconds of straight beatboxing before going on a murderous rampage, so listening to Flutebox’s work was a very welcome change. Their 5 minute duet at the end was pure awesome.
Very probably the most interesting beatboxer I’ve seen.
And if you liked Flutebox, check out Greg Patillo.
Hmm, that sounds like, spam! Anyway, Flutebox sounded really cool, and I’m not really into beatboxing so Beardyman was a bit less. Though I did find all the weird little sounds and noises he made a lot of fun, the guy has great control over his voice.
I was impressed simply by Beardyman managing a passable drum and bass imitation while beatboxing. They were both pretty cool though.
I like how flutebox is just walking around in the back rocking out, haha…
Flutebox really needs to work on his endings. He ends most bits very abrupt, while the flute is such an awesome instrument to make nice fade-outs with.
I definitely didn’t mean for that to sound like spam!
The spam comment was not directed at you but at a spam post which has now been deleted.
I’ve just never been fond of beatboxed flute, except as an ornament. As such, I don’t really enjoy Lee’s music much, because it seems like he overuses the effect. Like a saxophonist who does a sax-laugh every minute. Gets old after a while. The same with beatboxed vocals.
Both guys obviously have talent but it isn’t my thing.
