I like how halfway through this episode Chris basically pulls a “But what do they eat?” type analysis on a nursery rhyme. Sometimes I really love this show.

A very Josh end to the week…

  2. Steve C says:

I wish, I wish, Josh had been eaten by that fish.

  3. SpammyV says:

I don’t know how well it matches her model, but I really liked Lizzy Stride’s voice actress in this scene.

Also it’s still The Outsider, but I think that the apparently omniscient supposedly trickster god appearing to the assassin who seems to be changing his ways and asking if the assassin really thinks that he can do a few good deeds now and change anything about his fate is probably the best Outsider conversation in all of Dishonored 1.

  4. Dan says:

But what do they eat, now that Josh has stolen all their food?

  5. Christopher says:

I have never heard ring around the rosie before, but I swear I’ve heard that melody tons of times. It’s somehow a little nice that it exists all over the world.

Anyway, thanks for the episodes this week, this Dishonored DLC is pretty fun. It’s entertaining to watch Josh BAMF his way across the map. You guys wondered why the game didn’t mention Arnold Timsh yesterday. Dunno if you’ve checked a wiki since then, but I did, and apparently he gets shot by guards as he’s escaping if you set him free. If you disable the guards, it seems he just “cowers”. He doesn’t actually make it out of the prison.

The tune is often used in horror games as they warp it slightly since it’s mainly a reference to the black death if I remember correctly.

      1. Lachlan the Mad says:

Nope, the black death thing is a false (but commonly believed) origin. I think Rutskarn said as much.

        1. Daemian Lucifer says:

          Its actually about malaria.

      2. Christopher says:

I don’t play many horror games, I was thinking of more like a playground chant/rhyme/taunt kind of thing unique to Norway because certain words naturally only rhyme here. I’m not gonna go on a “Daud means Dead” tangent again, though.

  6. Hector says:

    I’m a whale! Here’s your powers!

  7. tzeneth says:

Ok this is probably going to be obvious in retrospect when someone gives me the answer but what was the pun Rutskarn was going to make that Josh expected? I can’t figure it out and it feels like it should be obvious.

    1. 4ier says:

I’m guessing it’s something about big ears, because Rutskarn had just said that the guy had heard of a lot of people, then Josh asked if that was all he was going to say.

      1. 4ier says:

So yes, once you know what to look for, it does kinda stick out. :P

        1. tzeneth says:

But something about this doesn’t sound right. ;)

          1. Daemian Lucifer says:

It is the worst thing Ive heard this whole week.

      2. MrGuy says:

Of course I’ve herd of whales!

  8. Limeaide says:

Don’t worry, Josh. I got the Undine joke.

  9. silver Harloe says:

“Nancy” is a card game in the Dishonoredverse.

  10. Daemian Lucifer says:

Sometimes I really love this show.

And sometimes you want pour bleach into your ears to wash out all of Butskarns puns.

    1. MrGuy says:

      Those are not different times.

  11. MsIcecream says:

The quest to get Lizzy to get a boat to get a location is pretty video gamey. Why is it so difficult to get a boat? Wouldn’t a small boat be enough? Why do we need a smuggler when we are teleporting assassins?

The subsequent quest to take back control of the boat is expected. It’s a shame that it is just one specific person you need to neutralize to end the mutiny rather than a group of conspiring gang members. A conspiring group would seem more believable and flavorful.

The final part to get an engine part for the boat to start that is also specifically required to power a waterwheel controlled by an opposing gang is absolutely absurd. I can understand contrived plots to justify video game levels but was this really the best they could do.

Fun Fact: If you torture Abigail Ames (Knife Of Dunwall Butcher house spy) in the chair for information then you can purchase a “favor” from her in the pre-mission menu of this mission. It’s an exploding parcel left on a rooftop with an angry note.

    1. Daemian Lucifer says:

We dont need her for the boat,we need the boat for her.Her knowledge of avoiding the patrols along the river is what we require, and in return she wants her boat back.

      1. Grey Cap says:

Which is slightly better. We’re still teleporting assassins, there must still be other smuggling ships with other captains, and we still have to go secure the engine part (which is for some reason both unique enough that it cannot be replaced and interchangeable enough with other machinery to be powering a mill).

If CDProjekt Red had made the game, we would have had two alternative missions: one where we sneak aboard a navy vessel patrolling the river and have to both get on board and jump ship in the right spot without raising any alarms, and one where we free Lizzy and murder her tub back into working condition. As it is, I absolutely adore all the Dishonored games but the plot of the DLCs is a bit contrived.

        1. Daemian Lucifer says:

The teleporting assassins thing is irrelevant, because the overseers exist. So the if the blockades have those, our superpowers mean squat. As for there being other smugglers, this is the only smuggler familiar with that route.Whether its because she holds that turf or because the plague has wiped out the others is irrelevant. As for the engine part,I have no idea.Maybe time is the issue so we need a quick replacement and cant manufacture one?

    Hey Shamus, seen this? https://blog.chromium.org/2017/03/faster-3d-rendering-with-webgl-20.html

    A WebGL 2.0 demo is at https://playcanv.as/e/p/44MRmJRU/
(Note! Leave AA off as it’s a resource hog, set water and sky to medium, the rest can be maxed, on my aging system I got a “steady” 59-60-61 FPS doing that.)
Chrome, Firefox, Opera, (and Vivaldi?) support WebGL 2, once Edge and Safari follow suit there’ll be a bunch of awesome games appearing I’m sure (that work across all modern browsers).

Imagine a virtual shopping cart you push around a 3D mall and then click and put things you want into the cart…

    1. Galad says:

Yes, only 15-20 or so years after Shamus had been tasked with making one of these :D

  13. Benjamin Hilton says:

In this episode one of the assassins tells Daud that he keeps seeing someone watching them out of the corner of his eye. I don’t remember if it is the first time at the docks or the second, but there is a point where you can see a Witch on a roof top observing you, and she disappears if you either get to close or a few seconds after she comes into camera view.
What I really like about this is that there is a very real chance you will only notice her as she vanishes, (since that’s the only movement she makes) leaving you just like the other assassin: unsure of what you saw.
