Educational

Stuff I learned this weekend:

  1. If a 190lb man steps unexpectedly over a 4ft ledge and lands on one leg at the bottom, the force of his knee being driven into his ribcage is enough to break some of his ribs.
  2. Breaking your ribs does NOT produce a light, tickling sensation.

I’m one of those people who likes to learn something new each day, so I would have to say that this weekend was a real success.

But more seriously, hope you’re okay.

  2. Cineris says:

Ouch, good thing you didn’t double jump.

  3. Pete Zaitcev says:

That got to suck. But at least ribs heal themselves… I am sitting at home after a knee reconstruction surgery which was necessary because ligaments do not repair themselves naturally. Remember, it could always be worse. Hope that helps.

  4. yikes. Shamus, take it easy for a while until you’re fully healed. I hope you’re not in too much pain.

    Oog.

Somehow, in spite of 39 years of misadventures, I’ve never managed to break anything. Bone-wise, at least.

  6. Acksiom says:

Yeesh. Well, at least your attitude’s still good and you have a sense of humor about it. That’s actually pretty damn valuable. Good on yer, mate.

Fledging Otaku is right; take his advice, relax and make healing your primary priority — and that’s based upon 10 years+ of being my stroke-debilitated father’s sole caregiver, BTW.

  7. mark says:

Ouch, yikes, oog, and yeesh (sorry, all the good ones were taken so I decided to just aggregate them all into one). Like Fledgling Otaku says, take it easy and heal up soon.

  8. Shamus says:

Thanks to everyone who left me well-wishes. You know, that’s a very encouraging thing to read and I really appreciate it.

  9. Taneer says:

Don’t worry, when a 120-pound boy with a broken arm tries to drop down through a 2-foot-wide gap just by pushing off the sides and putting his arms up, his arms will likely get caught on the sides, he will hang suspended by his shoulders, and collapse his ribcage.
