Proof that my self-indulgence knows no bounds.
I’m limited in who I can have on Breen’s show. I can only feature characters that appear as ragdolls in the Garry’s Mod dB. (NSFW) Some of the interesting options include: Vin Diesel, Leon from Resident Evil 4, Superman, Link, and a Big Daddy from BioShock.
The database is mostly models that were ripped out of other games and ported to the source engine, but a few are original creations. They don’t always work perfectly, though. Sometimes the limbs don’t bend properly, and their faces can’t be manipulated. Still, it’s an interesting exercise finding usable models and dropping them into Breen’s world.
Mass Effect Retrospective
A novel-sized analysis of the Mass Effect series that explains where it all went wrong. Spoiler: It was long before the ending.
Starcraft: Bot Fight
Let's do some scripting to make the Starcraft AI fight itself, and see how smart it is. Or isn't.
The Plot-Driven Door
You know how videogames sometimes do that thing where it's preposterously hard to go through a simple door? This one is really bad.
How to Forum
Dear people of the internet: Please stop doing these horrible idiotic things when you talk to each other.
Project Button Masher
I teach myself music composition by imitating the style of various videogame soundtracks. How did it turn out? Listen for yourself.
You linked to the Escapist thread about the comic raher than the comic itself Shamus.
However, I can click a second link. It was worth it. Best Breen in a while :)
Volatar: Thanks for the heads-up. Fixed.
I don’t know why, or what changed, but I’m getting tired of all the “nude” stuff that amazingly reached the front page after many many many months of normal things and interesting things being on the front page
I may overstepping a line with the following comment. I hope it is read in the manner of the compliment that I see it as in my own head.
Im sure that Garys Mod has helped you in uncountable ways in making your strips, however your a very inteligent and resourcful person. Its proven time and again in your comics, your posts, and im sure your workspace as well. You must have experience with other 3d tools, and other imaging programs.
Im a believer in anything is possible. Is there not some way you could even photoshop sprites or pieces of them together to get the desired effect for the joke or image in your mind to make it to the screen? I know you could put any character or environment up there if you wanted them. It may take too much time in some cases, but trying begets learning, and learning begets ease.
You can do It Shamus!
Sweet, I was hoping the Rorschach teaser was real.
Very nice expression on Breen’s face in the last panel.
Does the Gary’s Mod Rorschach allow you to change the pattern on his mask? That’s the vital thing for Rorschach.
Henebry: Amazingly, his mask changes on its own. It scrolls outward from the middle, which does a decent job of behaving the way we expect.
Okay, this one was an actual burst-out-laughing comic. It helps that I can imagine their voices in my head; all three characters have particularly distinctive voices. In any case, I applaud you, Shamus!
I thoroughly look forward to the continuation of this series.
What was breen thinking anyway with calling a hero when he is a villain?
Does Gary’s Mod have a model for Alice – or really any of the characters – from American McGee’s Alice? I tried once to build one for Quake, but stopped because I wasn’t doing it justice, but I’ve always loved the artwork from that game…
“Oh hell. This is going to be just like the Batman interview, isn’t it?”
At first I thought he meant the Joker being interrogated in The Dark Knight. Then I realized that he probably meant Breen himself got on the business end of Batman’s wrath. That just cracked me up.
Drakey: Nah, shamus is shit with photoshop! ;-P
