And we’re back. My kid is doing great.
I’m still plowing through the comments from the weekend, plus email, plus cleaning the lint out of the spam filter and checking out the new incoming links. So, if I don’t respond to something you’ve said, that’s why.
I actually have some notes and stub posts from last week that I need to hammer into some sort of shape before the original ideas leave me altogether. So, a couple of my posts may be a bit stale in the next few days. (As in: Linking to stuff everyone is done talking about.) I actually have quite a lot of stuff like this. On Tuesday and Wednesday I was on some sort of writing bender, and it all got stuck in the queue when things went sideways on Wednesday.
I feel good today. You know that depressing slump you feel right after vacation or something really, really happy? That sadness that hits a couple of days later? I’ve noticed emotions are always like this. The week after summer camp was always a slide into depression for us as kids. The post-camp world seemed empty, dull, and lonely. This was because we were coming off a five-day manic spree and the pendulum was swinging back. I knew this was the cause (I knew there wasn’t really any reason to be depressed) but that never made me feel any better.
But today I’m experiencing the opposite: I feel energetic and happy for no other reason than I’m no longer stressed. I’ve even got a new DM of the Rings for later today.

The Best of 2014
My picks for what was important, awesome, or worth talking about in 2014.
Fable II
The plot of this game isn't just dumb, it's actively hostile to the player. This game hates you and thinks you are stupid.
Skylines of the Future
Cities: Skylines is bound to have a sequel sooner or later. Where can this series go next, and what changes would I like to see?
MMO Population Problems
Computers keep getting more powerful. So why do the population caps for massively multiplayer games stay about the same?
Dead or Alive 5 Last Round
I'm not surprised a fighting game has an absurd story. I just can't figure out why they bothered with the story at all.
Well, the title’s from “Little Shop of Horrors” isn’t it? Tnat’s not THAT obscure…is it?
Glad to hear everyone is doing fine.
I only saw LSOH once, many decades ago. My memory is quite vague, so I have no idea if this was said in the movie.
The thing I was thinking of is a little more geeky-obscure than that. The more accuare quote is, “Yeah yeah yeah I’m back! Feelin’ good! FEED ME!”
I’m making a guess by saying Space Balls so don’t “quote” me on that.
HA! quote get it ehhh… Ahhh mumble mumble
Is that a grandmother in the picture with the three kids?
Is that a grandmother in the picture with the three kids?
Yes, that’s my mother-in-law.
Another odd note: We’re having a birthday party for little Issac here. It was a day late, but it was the best we could do under the circumstances. In the background you can see “Happy Birthday” on the door, but that sign is actually for the kid on the other side of the curtain, who’s birthday was Friday, the day the picture was taken.
And as for the quote: I never really expected anyone to guess it. It is really obscure and stupid. This wasn’t so much a challenge as an experiment.
The show in question is the sci-fi britcom Red Dwarf. The Cat enters the room and says this to Lister at one point.
I used the quote because it’s something I say a lot. When I’m feeling hungry I’ll slide into the kitchen and do the little Cat / James Brown spin and quote this line. It was amusing the first few dozen times, although I note that to date nobody has ever actually fed me in these circumstances.
As long as it’s not a reference to Furby, you don’t need to be worried.
*Sigh* If only I had read twenty sided two years ago. I would have eventually come up with that. My wife introduced me to that show a few years ago and we ended up buying the complete series on DVD. Darn it! Now I want to go home and re-watch them!
I know…it’s too late and I have absolutely no proof of it, but I knew it was the Cat from Red Dwarf. That’s my favorite show. I’ve watched all 8 series multiple times including all the extra junk/easter eggs, and I love the commentary. I’m still wondering whether they are actually “in the works” of that movie I’ve heard about for so many years…
