D&D Campaign lives again!

Due to the repeated requests, I sat down this weekend and finished the D&D campaign I left hanging waaaay back in May. I apologize to everyone who read through that half-finished story. I didn’t want to start the story again only to stop it again, so now I’ve completed the whole thing. It’s done. I’ll post the next installment later today, and I’ll post the rest Tues-Thu-Sat until the end.

Thanks to the gentle prodding from everyone, and the interest you all expressed in the story.

LATER: I should add that this effort ate into the time I usually spend making the DM of the Rings for the week. Let’s see if I can ALSO get out three comics before the weekend is over. We’ll see.

Still, I feel a great sense of accomplishment right now. This thing has been a little splinter of guilt that would bother me from time to time. The D&D campaign was the original reason for this entire blog, and the fact that I’d left it hanging had been eating at me. So nice to have that done.

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYY!

  2. Remember: Your obligations to us are zero.

    (That way lies madness.)

Thank you for taking your time to write these things up and make the fun cartoons. Don’t force it. :)

  3. Acksiom says:

Oh GOOD. I’ve been hoping for this. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Now I’ll have to find something else to hint so-very-subtly about…

I would now quote Skeeve the Impossible from above, but I think he communicatd it just fin without my repating it.

But I will anyway – “YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYY!”

I just wanted to say thank you for doing this. I found the site a month or so ago via a link to DM of the rings, stumbled onto the D&D campaign, and when I looked up, I had read the whole thing.

Hadn’t had a computer-related experience like that since I uninstalled Civ.

I just started playing D&D last month after being the kind of person who plays it for like, all my life. And then you link back to your campaign, and I’ve read the whole thing so far, so I’m really glad you made a complete thing of it! You commit so much to things and you make things that are really worthwhile — your whole blog, DMotR, this… not just a little of a good thing, a fully-formed good thing. You rock.

I do really enjoy reading things like this, especially well run campaigns that provide plenty of ideas to stea-… err… get inspired by. ^_~

All of the hard work is very much appreciated! If you were to ever do this again, I might suggest passing off the duties of writing every session log yourself. I record a “journal” for my Shadowrun campaign, where I have a player write an entry for that session describing what happened from an in character perspective. The writer rotates each play session so everyone gets a chance and no one person is required to do it all. If your players would be into that, it could give them an excellent opportunity to spell out the things they thought were important and even get more into their character. A suitable XP or gear reward could then be assigned to them for participating.

Plus, at the end of it all, you can still go back through and add “DM Notes” wherever you want them at. I find reading what my players wrote fun. Sometimes they’re the drab “We did this then that, then some guys died and we got what we wanted.” But more often than not they seem to enjoy putting real effort into writing the chapters and getting into how their characters feel about the game.
