I glanced at my Technorati page today. I always wondered if I could make the top 10,000. Well, this is as close as you can cut it.

Yes, I know. This is only interesting because we use base ten. Actually, I’d have been even more excited if I was ranked# 16,384.

Sorry for dorking out on you, there. I’m extra short on sleep today and I’m feeling sort of giddy right now.

    Hey, that’s great! Well done.

  2. JFargo says:

    Geek. :)

    Congratulations though, pretty cool.

  3. Andre says:

Quick, somebody give Shamus a wedgie!

  4. Chris says:

Why 16,384? Why not go for the Gold and be #32,768? It’s rounder that way. Or else you could be 255 for (at least) 2 way nerdery.

  5. Julia says:

Will you be excited if you get to 8192?

  6. Myxx says:

Another great way to rank your nerdiness is to take the Geek Test… http://www.innergeek.us/geek-test.html. I enjoy revisiting this on occasion to see how my geekage fluctuates as I age.

  7. Ryan says:

I take that test about once every six months!

  8. Shamus says:

Geek Test Result: 37.47535% – Major Geek

  9. Maybe I didn’t use the right button or something. I checked for my site and I had more links than you, but didn’t have any rank. (Embarassingly, the majority of my “links” were places like this where I’ve left comments, which include links back to my blog.)

  10. Shamus says:

Steven: It never gives me “credit” when you link me, either. I can only guess, but I’m assuming it’s confused by your hand-crafted pages with no permalinks or RSS feed. It knows you’re a site, but it can’t tell where one post ends and another begins.

  11. Mark says:

Technorati is a pretty big piece of crap when it comes to parsing sites. I don’t know what they do, but it doesn’t seem to work so well.

Congrats Shamus! With my experience on Technorati, you’ve probably got twice the links than they’re showing, so you’re doing pretty well for yourself:)

  12. Sem says:

    Congrats ^_^ !

And about the Geek Test Result: 45(and a bit)%. Just made if for Super Geek :).

  13. Teague says:

    30%: Total Geek

    Can I still post here?

  14. Shamus says:

    “Can I still post here?”

As long as you don’t start beating up on the rest of us and taking our lunch money…

  15. Teague says:

    Hahahahaha!

I never thought I’d have the chance to be on that side of it!

Actually, I went to an arts school (http://scpa.cps-k12.org/index.html) grades 4-12, so I was pretty cool or pretty geeky almost simultaneously.

  16. Carl says:

I think your DM of the Rings comics alone will get you well above that, but I’ve been enjoying most of your other posts as well.

You might be interested in this post about how Kathy Sierra believes her Creating Passionate Users blog got into the Technorati top 100.

  17. Pete Zaitcev says:

Shamus, could you ban 120host.net and delete all of its trackbacks, please? Thanks.

  18. AndrewNZachsDad says:

Woot! I scored 41+%! (Or is the 41% +?) I’m a bigger geek than Shamus!!! Wait…that doesn’t compute. Based on that I should cease to exis*

  19. Althanis says:

45.36489% – Super Geek Not sure I should be proud of this…

  20. Rodrigo says:

    its OVER NINE THOUSAND!

im surprised no one said that. its like… an obligation

  21. Gabe says:

34.91124%-not fair, I’m too young for a bunch of these, and too preoccupied with some of these things for some of the other things. Do I get bonus points for being disappointed with this? Does being too honourable to think of women in demeaning ways count? How about loving one girl too much to wish for a date even though I’m single and lonely because I feel like I’m betraying her even though she seems to hate me? damned inaccurate, computer-nerd favouritisming test. Now I’m grumpy.
